The Royal Air Force course is delivered from within the Air Staff in the Ministry of Defence.
The course is run annually by a Royal Air Force officer at Wing Commander rank.
The aim of the course is to give students a variety of opportunities to learn about life in the Royal Air Force from cradle to grave which will typically include:
Introduction to the Royal Air Force in the Ministry of Defence Main Building
Headquarters Air Command, Buckinghamshire
RAF Cranwell – officer and aircrew selection, initial officer training and basic flying training
RAF Halton – initial recruit training
RAF Valley – initial and advanced fast jet pilot training
RAF Cosford – technician and engineering training
RAF Shawbury – air traffic control school and helicopter training
RAF Brize Norton – the RAF’s air transport hub
RAF Marham – main operating base and home of the F35 strike aircraft
RAF Coningsby and Lossiemouth – Typhoon combat aircraft and UK Quick Reaction Alert capability
RAF Odiham – Chinook support helicopters
RAF Benson – Puma support helicopters
RAF Waddington – the RAF’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) hub
RAF Honington – home of the RAF Regiment
RAF Fylingdales – the UK’s Ballistic Missile Warning and Space Surveillance Centre
RAF Wittering – he RAF’s logistics hub, as well as basic flying training
RAF Northolt – home of the Royal Flight and Queen’s Colour Squadron
RAF Leeming – supports all Expeditionary Air Wings and training of Forward Air Controllers
RAF Benevolent Fund – charitable support to serving personnel, families and veterans
RAF Syerston – home of RAF gliding and air experience flying
